Religious School

2020 Information Coming!

New Families

Below you will see that we use email to share details. If you are new to the religious school, please email the synagogue to be put on the directors' email list and get more information. We're looking forward to hearing from you!

Registering, 2019

Please contact Turia or Miriam by August 5th to confirm your plan to send your child to Beth Shalom Religious School. They need to know so they can prepare the teachers and order materials.

The school sent registration forms (via email). Please check your email. If you have not already submitted your registration form by orientation, please bring it to the orientation.

Parent Orientation, 2019

Our parent orientation meeting is in mid-August at Beth Shalom (with coffee and bagels!). Look for the email for the time and date. We look forward to seeing all of you then!

Beth Shalom's religious school is based on curriculum from the ISJL (the Goldring/Woldenberg Institute of Southern Jewish Life).

The school will continue with T'filah Time and will add cantillation for older students:
  • We will structure our opening music session as T'filah Time. Students will practice prayers together, and pre-b'nai mitzvah students will have the opportunity to practice leading.
  • Torah cantillation will be a new learning choice for our students! Geared for 5th graders and up—but also potentially available to other students who are interested—these lessons will teach the basic cantillation phrases found in the Torah. It is our hope that after our pre-bar/bat mitzvah students gain understanding and fluency with common cantillation phrases, learning their assigned Torah portions will be even easier and more rewarding!

Classes range from pre-K through Bar/Bat Mitzvah. Final preparation for Bar/Bat Mitzvah is often coordinated with help from one or more of the ISJL rabbis.

Classes generally run on the same schedule as Auburn University. See Auburn University's academic calendar, and be sure to scroll to the correct semesters. For specifics, look for the email from our directors.

We may include a field trip or two. We'll keep you informed.

ISJL Education Fellow

Our ISJL Education Fellow for 2019/2020 is Mackenzie Haun, who worked with us last year.
